POSITIVE THINKING IS THE BEAT COLD THERAPY

It may come as a surprise to learn that thinking positive thoughts and staying physically relaxed can do more to conquer a cold than any other single therapy. But the simple explanation is that stress is unable to exist when we are deeply relaxed and thinking optimistically. Like most other human diseases and dysfunctions, cold and flu are stress-related and they begin to improve almost immediately when we free ourselves from emotional stress and tension.

Alternative therapies are suggested only where they integrate with scientifically-proven facts. However, as drug remedies continue to produce adverse side effects or to prove ineffective, medical science is gradually accepting alternative therapies. For example, Deep Relaxation and Positivism have become the principal tools of that branch of medical science known as Behavioral Medicine. Thus even these very subjective methodologies have been scientifically validated.

While medical science has focused its efforts on destroying the cold virus, or rendering it impotent, most alternative therapies have focused on how severely a cold may affect us. The message of the Whole Person approach to healing is that we are able to modify our personal response to a common cold infection. Those who respond best, it has been found, are people with the most relaxed and optimistic attitude and the highest overall level of physical activity and nutrition.
