TURN ON YOUR OWN PLACEBO EFFORT

We cannot overemphasize here that your success depends on visualizing yourself as already free of headache pain. Pictures and phrases such as “My headache will disappear”, make weak, vague instructions to feed to the subconscious. Compare it with “My headache if gone, I am completely free of headache pain”.

In a sense, we are mobilizing our own placebo effect. And the key to turning on this self-healing power it a strong belief and implicit trust in the body’s own ability to heal itself—a force that we can most easily harness through creative imagery.

For proof, a recent survey of cases of spontaneous remission from terminal cancer found that, without a single exception, every person had possessed a powerful and unswerving belief in his or her ability to recover completely.

We can help reinforce this belief by ending our imagery session with an expression of gratitude for having been healed—even though the healing may not have yet occurred. The vital thing is to “see” ourselves as already healed. Try to feel deeply grateful as you repeat phrases such as, “1 am happy and delighted to be free of headache pain. I feel comfort, health and happiness all over my body.”

Wind up your imagery session by making strong pictures of yourself already free of headaches and completely recovered. See yourself bicycling through Europe, playing tennis, cross-country skiing or doing whatever it is that your headaches may have prevented.
